Prostate examination.
So I expect some shit replies but amongst those might be some good information.

I’m a man of a certain age and I’ve been advised to have a prostate examination, I’ve googled it etc etc but what’s it really like?

I’m sure some of you on here have had one, does it hurt?

I’m a bit worried to have it done in case they find something wrong but that’s a typical bloke thing isn’t it? I think I just need words of comfort. ( not sure this is the place for that but you never know )

Calm yourself, the only thing you need to worry about is if you enjoy it

Just make sure you go to a woman doctor.

Re: Prostate examination.
Doesn't hurt. You'll lay on the bed. Pull your legs up to your chest. The doctor will then insert her finger. check the prostate. All over in 30 seconds.

If when the finger is inserted, you suddenly feel their hands on your shoulders, then you're in trouble!

Re: Prostate examination.
Its not so bad.
It aint nice but not as bad as you probably think if you havnt had it before.
Plus you get an instant result, clear or not, no waiting.

Re: Prostate examination.
Bit uncomfortable when the finger goes in but if you ask the doctor nicely to withdraw it slowly its quite nice!!!
In the words of Billy Connolly if your doughnut has turned into a bagel you're in trouble.
relax and enjoy

Re: Prostate examination.
Examination is fuck all... and to be honest it's pretty archaic ... I went for the PSI test and even that says fuck all apart from if it comes back a high score (which mine did) that you get 2 choices... do fuck all or have a prostate biopsy... I went for the later .... and had great fun when I got a blocked bladder after I got discharged later on that day... 4 days in hospital with a bladder going into spasm (basically you spurting out bloody piss out the end of your catheter) was not much fun I can tell you.... anyway... finally got sent home when my piss started looking like the golden sun rather than a pint of ribena and a few weeks later I had my results back and the head Urologist told me I was all clear and in fact why had I even put myself forward for the procedure.... anyway... better knowing eh??

Re: Prostate examination.
I will get this done at some point. Agree with Sold, it's better to know.

I had to have a medical just this week for health insurance purposes, I'm not doing too bad considering I don't live the cleanest of lifestyles. I do have hypertension though which I take pills for.

Re: Prostate examination.
Had it as part of my BUPA medical last week...As mentioned, request a female doctor....Its a tad uncomfortable but better to know if there's any issues ,if there are problems its obviously best to catch them early.

I'm finding getting 3 samples of my stool (2 each day) onto a small cardboard card for tests to be more unpleasant. I then have to send back to BUPA...I pity the postman.

Re: Prostate examination.
As I said a PSI test is far more reliable that SOMETHING might be the matter rather than having your tea towel holder invaded... in future I'll insist on the PSI and take it from there...

Dancer... same here fella... been on the Ramperill (sp) for over a year now... got it down to mild Hypertension which I can live with... kept wondering what these splitting headaches were for the previous 6 months before I found out ... I think I almost blew up the Blood pressure tester when I first went in teh quacks !!

Apparently 2 out of 10 men who have cancer also have a normal PSA less than 4 ng/ml.

Re: Prostate examination.
Yeah sorry meant PSA... yeah spot on J.R... hence why the biopsy (if offered) is the best way to rest easy...

Re: Prostate examination.
My ex father in law had prostate problems and took green tea capsules, as he didn't want to drink green tea.

He was also told to have grated lemon with his dinner.

he did these things and he no longe has a problem.

Well he does have a problem as he is a cunt, along with his daughter, but these aren't prostate related, more just being fucking in-bred cunts.

So I understand the blood test is to see if you have raised PSA level. The physical exam is to feel if there are any irregularities such as cysts possibly cancerous. So both need to be done, but seems neither are completely accurate.

1 out of every 2 men over 60 have Prostate Cancer, but most die of another cause.

Re: Prostate examination.
The worry you are now having is the worst part. The exam itself is quick and painless, if a bit embarassing. It shouldn't be embarassing, but it is a bit. I apologised to the doctor for having to do it. He rightly pointed out that this was easy and he had to do a hell of a lot worse.
